Travel Tuesday… Locally! Elandskloof Self-Catering Cottages is on top of the list of places I would recommend for a short holiday. It is located 20km outside Greyton and about 1.5 hours away from Cape Town. It is isolated enough for you to feel at peace but still safe. I will admit, when we arrived in the dark, I said my goodbyes as it didn’t help that I had no cellphone reception.
There were six of us, and only one person had reception, we can’t be sure why. It was probably the first time in 15 years that I was disconnected from the internet for more than a day. I couldn’t check social media, I couldn’t check emails, I couldn’t even send an sms. No one could get hold of me and it was exhilarating.
The cottages are fully equipped, with everything you would need to relax, including a dishwasher and some books bought in the early 1900s. The only thing it was missing, was a TV, which we didn’t even need.
We spent our days lazing around the braai, in awe of this view, knowing that South Africa is probably one of the most beautiful places in the world.
When we weren’t eating, we explored the farm. The farm had a handful of dams that we could swim in and a forest to explore. It even had a trampoline and a games room, with pool and foosball.
It was perfect.
